As a small aircraft pilot, Fred Friel has flown to some pretty interesting locations around the West. A Boise-area native however, Fred has discovered that it is Idaho’s own backcountry beauty that offers some of the most interesting sites to explore. He has especially enjoyed flying to areas in Idaho, like Sun Valley and McCall. But whether it’s “dropping in” from the sky or driving for a day hike, Fred understands that being mobile is the key to his explorer’s passion. It is this appreciation of the human body’s function that has led Fred Friel to a career in healthcare and to Pain Care Boise.
Mr. Friel attended undergraduate school at Boise State University. He received his Certificate of Physician Assistant from the US Army Medical Department Center and School at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. His Bachelor of Science as a Physician Associate was earned from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. And his Master of Physician Assistant Studies was attained at the University Of Nebraska College Of Medicine in Omaha, NE.
Mr. Friel was the Medical Company Commander, C Company, 145th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Brigade Combat Team deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq Dec 2004-Nov 2005. He recently retired from the Idaho Army National Guard as State Surgeon and Commander of the Idaho Medical Detachment. Upon his retirement as a full colonel in December of 2014 he was the Idaho Army National Guard State Surgeon, the first physician assistant to hold that position in Idaho.
His professional memberships include: the American Academy of Physician Assistants-Fellow and the Idaho Academy of Physician Assistants-Fellow. Certifications include: the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants-Certified.
Beyond the flights around the west and travels to distant lands in the Middle East, Fred Friel maintains that it is time spent with his family that provides his greatest adventure.
