Claire’s story begins in the bluegrass heartland of Kentucky, where she was born and raised in the rolling hills of thoroughbred horse country. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology. Her academic journey continued with a Master’s Degree in Bioarchaeology from Arizona State University. While studying ancient populations and human bone structures, Claire realized her passion lay in working with living patients. This realization led her to pursue a second Master’s Degree, this time in Physician Assistant Studies at A.T. Still University in Phoenix, where she found her true calling in healthcare.

With a unique background in the human skeleton, Claire accepted her first position in Orthopedic Surgery, embarking on an 18-year career in academia. She joined the renowned Sonoran Spine Center in Phoenix, where she worked alongside Sonoran’s Mayo Clinic Professors, assisting in complex spine surgeries and mentoring Mayo Medical Students and Mayo Orthopedic Surgery Residents. Whether it was guiding students through suturing techniques or managing patients in both hospital and clinic settings, Claire’s passion for education and patient care shone through. She even developed a surprising skill for repairing tattoos interrupted by surgical incisions.

In her role at Sonoran Spine, Claire’s dedication to teaching extended beyond the operating room. She helped create a popular clinical rotation for PA students from her alma mater and was invited back to campus annually to lecture on orthopedic topics. Her influence on the next generation of medical professionals remains one of her proudest achievements.

An integral part of the spine research program at Sonoran Spine, Claire co-authored nine scientific publications focusing on critical areas such as osteoporosis, spinal fractures, advanced spinal implants, surgical techniques, and correcting complex deformities like scoliosis and kyphosis. Her research has been presented at prestigious conferences, including the North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, and the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques.

Outside of academia, Claire was instrumental in the creation of the annual Arizona Scoliosis Seminar, a community event that brought together patients, healthcare professionals, and specialists to discuss spine health. For several years, she was a featured speaker, presenting on topics like osteoporosis and post-surgical pain management. Her commitment to educating the public extended to regular speaking engagements at community events and support groups for individuals living with chronic pain and spinal disorders.

Despite her medical career, Claire is far from just an academic. A lifelong and accomplished cellist, she has performed in orchestras since college, including 22 seasons with the Tempe Symphony Orchestra. Her love for music spans from Bach and Beethoven to jazz and classic rock, and she is always ready for a spirited karaoke session.

After nearly two decades in spine surgery, Claire sought a change of pace and spent a year as a Dermatology PA before her family relocated to coastal North Carolina. There, she embraced the scenic beauty of the coastline and rediscovered her Kentucky southern roots. However, the family’s journey didn’t stop there. When her husband’s work led them to Boise, Idaho, Claire found new fulfillment teaching Anatomy and Physiology at a local high school. Now settled in Boise, she enjoys the outdoor lifestyle, exploring the mountains, spending time with family, and continuing to play her cello.

Claire’s philosophy of healthcare is simple yet profound: “Listen to the patient.” She believes in addressing patient concerns with evidence-based solutions, always keeping the patient’s needs in mind. Whether it’s exploring innovative treatments or offering a compassionate ear, Claire remains committed to providing the highest standard of care—a commitment that has earned her the admiration of patients, colleagues, and physicians alike.

In every facet of her life, Claire Magnolo exemplifies dedication, compassion, and a deep desire to make a positive impact on others. When you meet her, you’ll see that beneath her friendly smile lies a wealth of knowledge, experience, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those around her.
